AI video production cost in 2026

The model credit is usually the cheapest part. A usable quote also covers direction, enough generation attempts, editing, audio, rights review, and revisions.

The cheapest line in an AI video quote is often the model credit. The expensive part is deciding what to make, producing enough usable shots, and turning them into a cut a brand can approve.

A quote that lists only software leaves out most of the job.

Start with the deliverable

A ten-second product loop and a 45-second brand film are different purchases even when both use generated video. The quote should state duration, aspect ratios, number of final versions, caption requirements, language, delivery format, and where the video will run.

The platform changes the work. A vertical social cut needs a safe composition for interface overlays. A trade-show loop may need silent playback and a clean repeat. A paid ad needs claim review and enough alternate openings for testing.

Without that specification, a low quote is merely incomplete.

The six cost layers

### Creative direction

Someone has to turn a business objective into a visual idea that can survive production. This includes the brief, references, script, shot list, product rules, and approval route.

The time is real even when the first frame is generated in seconds.

### Source assets

Product photographs, logos, packaging references, locations, character sheets, voice recordings, and music need to be collected and cleared. Weak inputs cause expensive corrections later. An input image with a distorted label will not become a reliable product shot because the motion prompt is clever.

### Generation attempts

Generated video is bought in attempts rather than guaranteed final seconds. A shot can fail because of motion, identity, small text, hands, physics, or an unwanted camera move. The budget needs an attempt allowance and a rule for what happens when it is exhausted.

Runway's current guidance reflects this iterative reality. It recommends beginning with simple motion instructions and adding one element at a time. For image-to-video, the input image carries composition and appearance while the prompt concentrates on action, camera movement, and timing.

### Editing and sound

Usable shots still need selection, timing, transitions, captions, color decisions, music, voice, and sound design. A sequence of attractive clips is not automatically a story. Editing is also where a small unwanted motion can sometimes be stabilized rather than regenerated.

### Rights and review

The production record should identify ownership or permission for supplied images, footage, music, logos, and likenesses. Synthetic voices and realistic people deserve explicit approval. Claims and disclosures need review in the finished video, where viewers actually encounter them.

The U.S. Copyright Office states that human-authored expression can be protected when AI is used as an assisting tool, while prompts alone do not supply sufficient human authorship. That makes creative decisions and editing records useful for more than project management.

### Revisions and delivery

Define how many review rounds are included, who can request a change, and what counts as a new concept. A revision to caption punctuation is not the same as replacing the central character after the edit is complete.

Delivery may include several crops, compressed social files, a master, caption files, thumbnails, and an archive of approved assets. List them.

A quote DATIK would accept

The document should show the final deliverables, included attempt allowance, review rounds, third-party tool costs, source-material responsibilities, use of subcontractors, rights assumptions, and the price of work outside scope.

It should also say what is unknown. Until a reference set and shot list exist, nobody knows how many generations a difficult product shot will take.

Why DATIK is not publishing a package price yet

DATIK Video Lab is still recording its own production cost. We need the actual number of attempts, editor hours, revisions, and tool charges from a complete internal pilot before turning the work into a fixed package.

That record will be published with the pilot. Until then, a confident flat price would be a guess.

Frequently asked questions

Is AI video cheaper than conventional production?

It can reduce location, crew, or reshoot costs for the right concept. It can also create a large generation and editing bill when the brief depends on exact products, recurring characters, readable text, or precise physical action.

Should generation credits be passed through at cost?

The quote should state the treatment. A client needs to know whether credits are included, capped, or billed separately after an attempt allowance.

What should a small business buy first?

Start with one defined deliverable and a narrow approval group. Record the full cost before commissioning a monthly volume plan.
