AI search optimization: what Google actually recommends
Google does not publish a separate trick for appearing in AI Overviews or AI Mode. Its July 2026 guidance says the same search foundations still apply because these features retrieve material through Google's search and quality systems.

That narrows the job. Publish something worth retrieving, make the page accessible, and measure what Google can actually report. A new file or a page rewritten into tiny answer fragments will not repair weak source material.
Start with a source, not another summary
Google asks site owners to create useful, non-commodity content. For a business, that could be a public price with a date, a documented process, a comparison based on your own operating rules, or original data with a method and limitations.
A generic article about “ten AI trends” can be assembled from the same public summaries everyone has read. It gives a retrieval system little reason to select your page. A cost guide tied to a real offer, or a field note with a downloadable dataset, is a different asset.
DATIK uses a plain test before commissioning a page: what can this company publish that a careful competitor cannot reproduce from search results in an afternoon? If the answer is nothing, the topic needs better evidence before it needs more copy.
Keep the page eligible for ordinary search
Google says a page must be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet before it can appear in its generative AI features. Check the ordinary technical path first:
- the page returns HTTP 200 and is not blocked by
robots.txtornoindex; - the canonical points to the intended public URL;
- important content is present in readable HTML;
- internal links lead to the page with descriptive anchor text;
- the sitemap contains the canonical URL.
Structured data can support normal search features, but Google says there is no special AI schema. Use it only when it accurately describes visible page content.
Write for the decision behind the query
Query fan-out lets Google explore related questions around a user's request. You do not need a separate page for every wording. Google specifically warns against producing many near-duplicate pages to capture those variations.
Cover the real decision instead. A buyer comparing AI chatbot providers needs price components, integration boundaries, review ownership, and a way to judge failure. Four thin pages targeting four versions of “AI chatbot cost” split that answer without adding evidence.
Search research shows the questions and competing formats. It should inform one strong page, not become an instruction to manufacture every keyword variation.
Skip the unsupported GEO shortcuts
Google's guide is unusually direct. Google Search ignores llms.txt, does not require content to be split into tiny chunks, and does not need copy rewritten in a special style for AI systems. Inauthentic mentions are not a durable shortcut either.
DATIK maintains llms.txt as a compact map for systems that may choose to use it. We do not count the file as a Google ranking improvement.
Measure the page without inventing attribution
Search Console is the first source for Google's own visibility data. Review impressions, clicks, queries, pages, countries, and devices. Google also documents a Generative AI performance report for eligible properties.
Analytics answers a different question: what visitors did after arrival. Connect the page to a useful action such as a diagnostic request, quote start, download, or qualified chat. Keep LLM checks in a separate log because a manual answer from ChatGPT or Perplexity is not a Search Console impression.
Take a baseline before publication. Then check indexation in days 1–3, early search and LLM signals around day 7, the title and description around day 14, and contribution against the baseline around day 28.
A practical first project
Choose one buyer question attached to a current DATIK package. Gather the company's own price, process, constraints, and source documents. Build one page, link it from the relevant commercial page, and set up the measurement record before release.
The Content Engine covers that production system. Pricing is public on the DATIK pricing page. If the source material is still generic, the free diagnostic should end with a research plan rather than a promise to publish.

Frequently asked questions
Is GEO different from SEO for Google?
Google says its generative AI features still rest on SEO because they use its search index and quality systems. Measure other assistants separately.
Does llms.txt improve Google rankings?
No. Google's current guidance says Google Search ignores llms.txt. A site may maintain the file for other systems.
Do I need a page for every AI-search question?
No. Google warns against mass-producing query variations. Split pages only when the intent, evidence, or next action changes.
How quickly can AI-search optimization show results?
There is no reliable timetable. Record the baseline and review verified search, analytics, and LLM observations separately.
Audit one source before publishing another page
